CCCC board approves contract for reimplementation of Jenzabar

On a 4-1 vote, the Cloud County Community College Board of Trustees approved entering into a  two-year contract with Dynamic Campus for the reimplementation of the Jenzabar system. Dynamic Campus specializes in technology outsourcing for higher education, and will also integrate Jenzabar with all of the college's third party software.
The Jenzabar, a leading provider of software, strategies and services for higher education, was originally implemented at the college in 2006. College president Danette Toone told the board Wednesday morning that turnover in the college's information technology department has shown some major weaknesses in the college's Jenzabar set-up and its relationship to the college's third party software.
Toone said Dynamic Campus is an outcome-based company that plans to provide Cloud with an on-site chief information officer to lead the efforts to configure Jenzabar to support all of the college's other services at modules. The note is estimated to be no more than $500,000 for two years.
Based on Toone's recommendation, the board authorized her to move forward on the contract with Dynamic Campus contingent upon the college's receiving a $984,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, which will be used to pay for the contract.
The Department of Energy grant was originally awarded in 2008, but was held up while the college worked toward a determination of no hazard from the Federal Aviation Administration regarding the height of the college's wind turbines.
Dave Clemons cast the dissenting vote on the measure. He abstained, saying he was not comfortable with allowing Toone to proceed with the contract before having grant dollars to pay for it.
Other board members agreed, saying that was why their approval was contingent upon receipt of the grant funds.
Roger Koester was not in attendance at Wednesday's meeting.
In other business, the board approved the hire of Neil Ward as an instructor in art and graphic design. The full-time nine-month contract of $39,500 is effective Aug. 14. Ward, an Arkansas native who currently resides in Ireland, will fill the position vacated by Barb Stevens, who retired.
