Cloud County sales tax up in August

 Cloud County's sales tax and compensating use tax received in September (August sales) was up considerably from that received in 2012 according to the information Sheryl Williams, county treasurer, gave to the Cloud County commission at its weekly meeting Monday. Amount for 2013 was $64,988.01 compared to $56,037.65 in 2012.
 In other business, the commission voted to accept the low bid of $4,011.45 from Becker Tire for the semi-tractor tires for the Solid Waste Department. Other bids received were from Kansasland Tire, $4,269.75, and Thompson's Tire for $5,400.
 During his weekly appointment, highway administrator Andy Asch reported most of the flood damage to the roads has been repaired and employees are continuing to patch roads. Asch also discussed the budget for his department and said he would get cost estimates for striping the Ames/Miltonvale road and report back to the commission next week.
 Robert Walsh, county attorney and Sheriff Brian Marks discussed several issues with the board including the Law Enforcement Center; concealed carry legislation; the contract for the county sanitarian; and when and if the Raven Ridge Tactical security team should assist the Cloud County Sheriff's department.
 Marks presented classification changes for Jerry  Bunch, Jerron Baxter and Taylor Solt from part-time to full-time corrections officers, effective Oct. 1, at a wage of $13.12 per hour which the board approved.
Diana Gering, Health administrator, reported employees from her department will be conducting a drive-thru flu shot clinic from 9-11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Cloud County Fairgrounds.
Marlene Stamm, county sanitarian, gave an update on the permits issued and permits that have been finalized. The board voted to approve the contract with Stamm dba NCK Environmental, LLC to provide sanitarian services for Cloud County.
In other matters the board
•approved department payrolls totaling $130,157.92
•reviewed monthly expense vouchers
•approved commissioner Gail Engle as voting delegate and commissioner Johnita Crawford as alternate voting delegate for the KCAMP annual meeting Oct. 30 in Wichita
•discussed the video visitation system for the new Law Enforcement Center with Amber Lindberg, jail administrator, and Marks
•heard a report from Concordia city manager Larry Uri, that the gas line to the new jail was expected to be in operation by Oct. 1st.
•approved the amended bylaws and interlocal agreement for KCAMP membership
Meetings attended during the week by commissioners included:
Crawford, Pawnee Mental Health meeting, Sept. 24, in Clay Center and the North Central Regional Planning Commission meeting in Concordia Sept. 26.
Gary Caspers, Homeland Security meeting in Beloit, Sept. 24; LEPC meeting at the Fire Department, Sept. 25, and Cloud County Resources Council meeting, Sept. 25.
All three commissioners attended the owners meeting Oct. 1 at the jail site.
Adjournment was at 11:45 a.m.


Commission approves tire bids
