County board approves gas utility service contract
Following a discussion of the gas utility service contract with county attorney Robert Walsh and Concordia city manager Larry Uri, Cloud County board of commissioners Monday approved and signed the gas utility service contract with the city of Concordia.
The board also approved signing the use of public road right-of-way for the Plum Road portion of the City's flood control project.
At the request of Marlene Stamm, county sanitarian, the board approved a variance to change the distance between a well and laterals from 100' to 50' for property at 1153 Key Road.
During highway administrator Andy Asch's routine appointment, the board approved a classification change for Kyle Bogart from full-time maintenance to part-time mower, effective Aug. 19, 2013.
Commissioners conducted their monthly department head meeting with these county officials reporting:
EXTENSION agent Kim Larson reported her department is working on Ag Day for Kids and that the 4-H shooting sports group will be having a fundraising event at Fall Fest.
CLERK of District Court Lea Dawn Throckmorton reported Starla Borg-Nelson has been appointed as the new magistrate judge for Republic County.
HIGHWAY administrator Asch reported his department is continuing to work to repair the roads after the heavy rains last month.
MAINTENANCE manager Troy Shepard reviewed the numerous projects his department is working on.
SOLID WASTE director Justin Murdock reported that the road to the construction demolition landfill was finished last week.
IT director Jerry Collins reported the new fiber optic cable has been installed at the Health Department and discussed several viruses that are hitting the computers in the Courthouse.
HEALTH administrator Diana Gering reported that the walk-in flu shot clinic started Monday at the Health Department and that from 8-10 a.m., Oct. 5, her department will be conducting a drive-through flu shot clinic at the Cloud County Fairgrounds.
REGISTER OF DEEDS Judy Lambert reported that numerous people had been in to do genealogy research.
TREASURER Sheryl Williams reported that redemptions for the delinquent real estate had been printed and her office is preparing for the Sept. 20 distributions.
APPRAISER Barry Porter discussed the new flood insurance maps and reported on a seminar he attended in Russell.
COUNTY CLERK Linda Bogart reported her office is preparing for the USD 333 Bond Election on Nov. 5 and that the city of Aurora may be having a special election in October for the sale of its gas utility.
During regular session, Sen. Elaine Bowers, Rep. Susan Concannon and C.W. Klebe of the Kansas attorney general's office discussed the concealed carry legislation, security in county facilities and the exemptions for state and municipal buildings.
