County board hears about project proposals for Miltonvale
Cloud County board of commissioners heard a power-point presentation on proposals for four projects that Merit, Inc., Miltonvale, is suggesting for consideration for Wind Farm Funding.
Tammy Marrs, Merit Inc. and representatives of Miltonvale gave the presentation along with written proposals for a Spa/Beauty Salon; Customized Countertop Business; Tootle Park renovations and highway sign; Day Care and Preschool.
Marrs reported with these projects they are predicting 13-21 new jobs would be created. The board made no decision but will consider the proposals at a later date.
Accompanying Marrs were Jon Puckett, mayor, with Linda Foster, Darla Bebber, Nick Brummet, Walene and Steve Graham.
In other business Andy Asch, highway administrator, reported he had reviewed the tire bids that were opened last week and reported that the low bid for each of the various types of tires was accepted.
Total cost of tires to be purchased from each company was: Kansasland, $24,203.91; Thompson's OK Tire, $2,655.76; Becker Tire, $12,870.33; and Commercial Tire, $8,732.
In other highway business, the board approved a joint road terrace use permit for Travis and Richard LeClair for the northeast quarter of 9-7-1.
The board approved the hire of Vincent Armstrong as a construction laborer to fill an open position effective April 1 at a rate of $11.32 per hour.
Asch reported he had checked on the two road complaints he received from commissioner Johnita Crawford last week. Concerning the problem at 110th and Hawk Road he will contact the landowner, Michael Miller, concerning this matter; and regarding the culvert on 170th Road (1 1/2 miles north of Union Road) repairs will begin sometime this spring.
Asch told the board he had sold their old generator through the Government Surplus Online Auction. He also said that several road and bridge employees will attend a gravel workshop April 17 in Minneapolis.
Larry Uri, Concordia city manager, reported that the Concordia city commission accepted the bid of $179,449 and pe-ordered materials in the amount of $77,000 for the construction of a gas line to the North Development. Uri said construction should start within a few days.
Marlene Stamm, sanitarian, gave the board an update regarding permits that have been completed and the new permits that have been issued. At her request, the board approved a variance for the monitoring well for Larry Hall from 100' to 30' from laterals.
Steve Snyder, Cloud County Gun Club, discussed the club that is being organized in Cloud County. The group is currently working with the NRA (National Rifle Association) and various state organizations to find a location and funding to be able to construct a shooting range in Cloud County.
Justin Murdock, Solid Waste director, reported he and Steve Horkman would be attending the WORKS Conference today and Wednesday in Manhattan.
Commissioners reporting on meetings they attended were: Gary Caspers, Cloud County Resources Council meeting, March 19, and KWORCC Teleconference Board of Trustees meeting, March 21; Johnita Crawford, Juvenile Detention Center meeting, March 20, in Westmoreland; and Gail Engle, the River Valley Extension District #4 annual meeting, March 18, and the Dig Safe meeting March 20.
Everett Ford asked about the Wind Farm Funding and the application deadline which is March 30.
