County commission conducts executive sessions

Cloud County board of commissioners began its Monday meeting with three executive sessions. Two were with county attorney Robert Walsh to discuss attorney/client privileges with one lasting 15 minutes and the other 10 minutes.
A third executive session was held with highway administrator Andy Asch to discuss non-elected personnel and lasted 5 minutes. Walsh was also included in this session.
At 10 a.m. the board had its monthly meeting with department heads with these officials reporting:
HIGHWAY administrator Asch reported his employees are repairing damage to caused to roads from the heavy rains received last week and are spraying Johnson Grass.
TREASURER Sheryl Williams reported the delinquent Real Estate list has been sent to the newspaper for publication and that total of unpaid taxes was $451,264.07. Williams also discussed the State Motor Vehicle program and the problems it is having trying to renew a disabled tag.
EXTENSION ag agent Kim Larson, who is new with River Valley Extension District reported she is completing her Master's Degree in Agronomy through Kansas State University and she is completing some training at Smith County.
EXTENSION agent Pat Gerhardt reported her office is getting ready for the State Fair and the memory classes which begin in two weeks.
HEALTH administrator Diana Gering reported she and Health Department staff will be attending Community Night at Cloud County Community College; they may be participating in the Health Fair and she is working with the Hospital on accreditation for both the Hospital and Health Department.
CLERK Linda Bogart, SOLID WASTE director Justin Murdock and REGISTER OF DEEDS Judy Lambert all reported routine business.
During open session, commissioner Gail Engle reported he attended a meeting with Walsh, Vicki Kopsa, paralegal, and representatives from Stupka Construction at the jail site Aug. 6. He also attended the Chemical Dependency Committee meeting July 9.
Murdock discussed information he received on a used baler for the Recycling Center.
Adjournment was at 11:20 a.m.
Commissioners attended the owners' meeting at 2 p.m. today at the jail site.
