Letter to the Editor 5-16-14

Dear Editor,
We want to take this opportunity to thank the community of Concordia and all of Cloud County for the wonderful support we received for the Concordia Park Project. What a great feeling we have each time we go by City Park and see the children, parents, grandparents and caretakers enjoying this wonderful new addition to our town!
Thanks to the Concordia Blade-Empire for their amazing coverage of this project through all its phases, from the first announcement through all the fundraising photos and the article that included the ribbon cutting! Thanks also to KNCK/KISS radio station for all their news segments, PSAs and help getting the word out about our needs before, during and after the build!
Thanks to all our committee chairs for their leadership and time commitment from the beginning stages all the way to the build on this project. Thanks to the donors, over 300 businesses & individuals, who made this all possible with your commitments of money, products and time!  And I am thankful everyday for the 900+ people who showed up to actually assemble the park and take it to completion, with a special thanks to the contractors in our community who served as crew leaders. They took time away from their regular jobs to volunteer their expertise to this project. To designer Dennis Wille, and Barry Segal and Mark Cushing, our construction foremen from Play by Design: many thanks for their experience, patience and leadership in building our playground. Without the help of the staff and crew at City Hall, this would not have been possible. So be sure to thank these folks when you see them. To everyone who volunteered, cooked, served, raised money, donated tools, worked with our youth, helped with childcare–the list is endless–thank you so much! Our thanks also to Aidan Poore for naming our playground. Cloudville is now a reality!
Parents, please take a few minutes to discuss safety with your children. They need to keep their shoes on, be kind to the other children there, treat the park with respect and pick up their trash. And to the adults, please remember this is a children's park, so no smoking and no animals allowed, except for those certified as service animals.
The finishing touches are still going on. The pickets are up, the bricks are laid and the signs are being made showing the sponsorships for the various components. Those will be added soon, along with the mosaic wall and mural. I hope you take time to walk through the park, find a shady spot to sit and enjoy this new addition to our community. Thanks to all for making this such a rewarding project for everyone involved!
                                                  Sincerely,
                                                  Ashley McMillan and Janet Lowell
