US-81 mill and overlay scheduled for Cloud County
A mill and overlay project, including patching of the existing underlying concrete pavement as warranted, is scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 8, on three segments of U.S. 81 in Cloud County.
One segment is on the northbound lanes. It starts 5.1 miles north of the Cloud/Ottawa County line then north 7.6 miles. The other two segments are on the southbound lanes. The first of these starts 1.8 miles south of the U.S.-81/K/9 Junction then south 0.6 miles. The second begins 2 miles north of the Cloud/Ottawa line then south 1.5 miles.
This project is scheduled to be completed over two construction seasons. This year work is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 1, weather permitting. In 2015 the project resumes April 13 and should be completed before the Memorial Day weekend. Purpose of the project is to improve ride quality and extend the life of the highway.
Hall Brothers of Marysville is the prime contractor. Project cost is $12,916,375.
