DOROTHY BERNICE (CUPP) VON TUNGELN
A celebration of life for Dorothy Bernice (Cupp) Von Tungeln was held at the Verden United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at 10 a.m., followed by interment at the El Reno Cemetery.
Dorothy was the eldest child of Harry and Zillah Bernice (Vasey) Cupp, born April 12, 1918, in El Reno, Okla. After graduating from El Reno High School, she married Elmer A. Von Tungeln on Jan. 1, 1938, and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, two sisters, Wanda Mullen and Maxine Cummins, and one great-grandson, Alex T. Von Tungeln.
Dorothy is survived by her brother, Waverly Cupp of Norman; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Neal and Betty Von Tungeln of Oklahoma City, Dale and Faye Von Tungeln of Vernon, Texas, and Clark Von Tungeln of Verden; a daughter and a son-in-law, Jane and Scott Cailteux of Lawrence, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy lived a long and healthy 93 years, and had a tremendous love for her family and friends. She lived through the Great Depression which instilled a true independent, pioneering spirit. She was a hardworking farmer’s wife and assisted her husband in whatever chores needed to be done. Whether it was milking cows, feeding calves, baling hay or delivering meals to the wheat fields. Elmer and Dorothy were always working hard together, side by side.
She was a modest but proud woman who was plainspoken and straightforward. She and Elmer truly believed in living within their means and lived by the motto, “waste not, want not.”
