 JEFFREY "JEFF" DUANE SCHMITZ
 Jeffrey "Jeff" Duane Schmitz, 61, of Alabaster, Ala., died at 9:03 p.m., on Saturday, July 13, 1913. Jeff was born Oct. 27, 1951, in Oberlin, Kan.
 Surviving Jeff are his wife Martha Schmitz of Alabaster, Ala.; his son, Travis (Alison) Schmitz of Chicago, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Cyndi (Allen) Johnston of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; one brother, Steve (Glenda) Schmitz of Lenexa, Kan.; one sister, Kelley (Terry) Carson of Shawnee, Kan.; three grandchildren, Jackson and Charles Schmitz and Jake Johnston; two nephews, Erich Schmitz and Jerad Carson; and one niece, Erin Schmitz.
 Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Schmitz.
 Jeff was a graduate of Concordia High School in Concordia, Kan., and the Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kan. In addition to growing up in Kansas, Jeff spent many years living in Jackson, Miss., with his wife and son. Jeff was an avid fisher and hunter, particularly enjoying dove hunting.
 The funeral service was today, Tuesday, July 16, at 3 p.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Montevallo, Ala. The family ask that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
