Pearl B. Empson Hardwick Rizzi, 99, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 28, at Sunset Nursing Home in Concordia, Kan.
She was born Dec. 1, 1913, in Concordia to Raymond and Florence B. (Clark) Empson. She was married to Emil "Bud" Rizzi in St. Louis, Mo., on July 12, 1953.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Emil, on Dec. 24, 1988, her parents, four brothers: George Elvin, Gilbert W., Loren Ralph, Donald and one sister, Dorothy Irene Empson Brammer.
Pearl is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Pearl and Bud came to Concordia from St. Louis in 1969 and were co-owners of Pearl's Gift Shop in Concordia until their retirement in 1982.
The Concordia Senior Citizens Center was a large part of Pearl's life in later years. She attended every day and enjoyed helping out, as well as playing cards and bingo with her friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean R. Frazier officiating. Burial will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013. The family will greet friends from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. The family suggest memorials to the Concordia Senior Citizens Center in care of the funeral home. For online condolences, please visit
