Letter to the Editor 12-6-13

Dear Editor,
In the past, when in the classroom, I used to show a film on Harriet Tubman, the  “Black Moses” of her people  . . . leading runaway slaves to  the North and freedom. Harriet had her own conversion experience as a young black slave woman. (And never lost a passenger on her Underground Railroad.)
In the film, one scene was night, around a campfire . . . when one woman recalled what she was running from––Recalled:
I remember when he (the slave master) would come in and put his dirty, stinking body over me . . . and I couldn't hate him enough.
Harriett replied . . . I know, I was there too, but what does hate do but destroy you too.
I recall this film and the above story . . . thinking about my current America . . . and trying never to use the word "hate"
Hate will destroy a person. Grace saves. God grace our America.
