HUTCHINSON — Seventh-ranked Hutchinson rolled to an 11-5 win over the Cloud County Thunderbirds in the opening round of the Region 6 women’s soccer playoffs on Monday.
The Blue Dragons got out to a 5-2 lead in the first half, and put up three quick goals in the second half to make it 8-2.
Cloud County, which finished up 9-12, fought back with three consecutive goals to close the gap to 8-5, but Hutchinson tacked on three goals to pull away.
The Blue Dragons (15-1) will play Barton County (15-3-1) in the semifinals at Hummer Park in Topeka on Saturday.
Barton County got past Neosho County 2-0 in the opening round.
Fourth-ranked Butler County thumped Northwest Kansas Technical College 8-0, and Johnson County clipped Cowley, 2-1.
Butler County (18-2) and Johnson County square off in the other semifinal.
Hutchinson scored two goals in the first six minutes of the match against Cloud County.
An unassisted goal by Cloud County’s Brandi Jones in the 21st minute made it 2-1.
Danielle Sheehy answered less than a minute later for Hutchinson.
Beth Millican scored the first of her three goals for Cloud County, and the T-Birds trailed just 3-2.
Two goals by Melissa Hetherington gave Hutchinson the 5-2 halftime advantage.
Hetherington added two more goals in the first 14 minutes of the second half.
Arielle Everett scored for the Blue Dragons to make it 8-2.
Cloud County got a goal by Millican, off an assist by Georgia Walters, in the 63rd minute.
Jones scored an unassisted goal in the 69th minute.
Millican completed a hat trick with a goal in the 71st minute, off an assist from Anyi Lamprea, and the T-Birds were down just 8-5.
Hetherington scored her fifth goal of the match in the 76th minute.
Sheehy knocked in her second goal, and Hetherington rounded out the scoring in the 83rd minute.
Hutchinson had 15 shots on goal to nine for Cloud County.
Chanelle O’Dwyer had three saves for Cloud County and Caitlyn Van Epps had one save.
