MARYSVILLE — The Concordia Blues advanced to the semifinals of the American Legion Baseball Class AA Zone Tournament by knocking off Linn 10-4 in the first round on Sunday.
Concordia will play either Marysville or Frankfort at 8:00 tonight.
The zone champion will move on to the state tournament to be played July 31-Aug. 4 in Pratt.
Scoring a run in the top of the first inning, the Blues never trailed in the game.
Bowe Behymer reached base on an error with one out. He would score on a passed ball.
Concordia made it 2-0 with a run in the second inning.
Ryan Perkins led off with a single. He stole second and scored on an error.
Scoring two runs in the top of the third inning, Concordia upped the lead to 4-0.
Trevor Nordell singled with two out and stole second.
Jordan Mehl reached base on an error.
A ground ball by Vince Woodcox got Nordell home.
Mehl scored on an error.
Linn cut the deficit in half, 4-2, with two runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Taking advantage of three errors, the Blues put up four runs in the top of the fifth inning, and led 8-2.
Nathan Gieber and Nordell singled to get things started.
Gieber scored the first run on an error.
With two out, Perkins got aboard on an error, and Nordell scored.
Braden Johnson was hit by a pitch, and Will Strommen doubled to drive in two runs.
Linn scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, and trailed 8-4.
Gieber doubled and scored on a single by Nordell in the sixth inning to give Concordia a 9-4 advantage.
The Blues added a run in the seventh inning when Strommen doubled and Behymer doubled him home.
Chanse Copple pitched the first three innings for Concordia and gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits. He struck out six and walked one.
Johnson worked the final four innings. He allowed two unearned runs on one hit, struck out four and walked two.
Nordell had three hits in four at bats and scored two runs for the Blues.
Strommen had two hits and drove in two runs.
Gieber had two hits and scored two runs.
