Board approves highway department changes

 Cloud County board of commissioners Monday approved a classification change and a hiring for the highway department requested by Andy Asch, Highway administrator. Both were to fill open positions.
 Anthony Smith will move from construction laborer to utility worker, effective Dec. 16 at a wage of $12.66 per hour. Jeffrey Womack was hired as a construction laborer at a rate of $11.32 per hour effective Dec. 16.
 Asch reported his department is cutting trees and crushing rock at the Aurora pit.
 Justin Murdock, Solid Waste director, reported the Transfer Station had a surprise safety inspection last week by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. No violations were found
 Murdock also said he wanted to remind everyone that the Transfer Station is accepting deer carcasses but they must be double-bagged and are to go to the main building to be loaded in the truck.
 Health administrator Diana Gering and Emergency Preparedness director Larry Eubanks were in to discuss several items with the board. These included security at the Health Department, the LEPC meeting, the possibility of moving the Emergency Preparedness office to the basement of the Health Department building and the possibility of using part of the Health Department basement as an Emergency Command Center.
Ellen Anderson, JJA/Community Corrections director, reported her department would be receiving $6,374.13 in additional 2014 grant funds. The board approved allowing the chairman to sign the signatory approval for the 2014 Community Corrections Grant Funds additional allocation budget summary and budget narrative.
In other matters the board
•approved the transfer of unused funds in the amount of $30,000 from the Election Fund to the Election Capital Outlay Fund.
•approved payment of the following invoices, on behalf of the Public Building Commission: GGA, PC $572.11 and Zahner Hansen Construction Group, $5,741.10.
•visited with Rich Morton, Cliff Sullivan and Ridgely Schlemm of Goldberg Group Architects.
Commissioners were hosts for the employee Christmas luncheon from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. after which the board adjourned.
Commissioner Gail Engle attended the Chemical Dependency Committee meeting Friday, Dec. 13.
Commissioners attended the owners' meeting at 10 a.m. today.
