Cloud County commissioners Monday unanimously approved five projects for the 2013 Wind Farm funds, two in Concordia and three in Miltonvale.
Approved for Miltonvale were: $80,000 to Merit, Inc., to be used for a Spa and Beauty Shop, a customized countertop business and a Day Care and Preschool. Concordia will receive $67,000 for restrooms at the Sports Complex, $53,000 for the parking lot and drainage issues at the National Orphan Train Complex.
The commission is reserving $100,000 for future economic opportunities.
In other business, the board approved the hire of Ronald Bergstrom as a mechanic for the Road and Bridge Department, effective May 6, at an introductory wage of $12.80 per hour. Andy Asch, highway administrator, presented the hiring authorization.
Justin Murdock, Solid Waste director, reported the Recycling Center had shipped a load of cardboard and would be shipping a load of No. 8 newspaper. In 2013 to date 155 tons of recyclables have been shipped.
Murdock also reported that anyone needing wood chips for landscaping may contact the Transfer Station.
Troy Shepard, maintenance manager, reported there have been issues with the courthouse boiler and discussed various other maintenance problems. Commissioners asked Shepard to get estimates for the cost of the boiler repair and report back next week.
In other matters the board
•approved sending notice to the Lincoln Township Board for the application of a Cereal Malt Beverage License, for the Cloud County Fairgrounds by Nick Gerard dba The Rock Quarry.
•heard about the landscaping at the new Law Enforcement Center from Sheriff Brian Marks.
•approved appointing Regine Thompson as acting County Attorney in Case #10-CR-93, because of a conflict of interest with the county attorney.
•conducted a five-minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel with county attorney Robert Walsh.
