Board meets with department heads

Cloud County board of commissioners conducted their monthly meeting with department heads Monday with these county officials reporting:
REGISTER OF DEEDS Judy Lambert reported her office has had numerous email requests from people doing genealogy research.
JJA/COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS director Ellen Anderson reported her department's fiscal year ended June 30 and employees are completing their year-end reports.
EXTENSION agent Pat Gerhardt reported her employees are preparing for the Fair and the theme for this year's Fair is "Salute to Our Heroes;" Kim Larson, the new ag agent will start this week; and, in August, classes will be conducted on memory retention.
HIGHWAY administrator Andy Asch reported his employees are spraying, doing pipe work and ditch cleaning.
MAINTENANCE manager Troy Shepard reported his employees have been trimming trees and doing yard work at the Health Department building and they have replaced the pump in the marble ball and are continuing to do various other maintenance projects.
SOLID WASTE director Justin Murdock reported routine business at both the Transfer Station and Recycling Center.
IT DIRECTOR Jerry Collins reported the CIC updates went well and there were no problems.
HEALTH administrator Diana Gering discussed the phone system for the Health Department and reported she received information concerning grants and there have been some funding cuts.
COUNTY CLERK Linda Bogart reported her office has completed July valuations to be used for budget purposes and the total valuation has increased by $4,452,129. County treasurer Sheryl Williams asked her to relay to the department heads that she has sent out 848 letters for delinquent real estate taxes and the amount of unpaid real estate taxes totals $638,453.22, and property owners have until July 24 to pay their delinquent taxes before they are published in the newspaper and additional fees are added.
During regular session, commissioners had two 15-minute executive sessions to discuss attorney/client privileges.
Asch reported he had received prices for sealing oil of $2.09 for Ergon of Salina and $2.30 per gallon from Vance Brothers of Kansas City. The highway department plans to seal approximately 15 miles of roadway this year.
Murdock reported the overhead door at the Transfer Station and the skid loader at the Recycling Center have been repaired.
By unanimous vote commissioners agreed to sign an Interlocal Agreement and Contract with Republic County and Barry Porter as County Appraiser for the respective counties.
In other business the board
•approved department payrolls totaling $135,576.05.
•discussed the new concealed carry legislation with County Attorney Robert Walsh.
