Following a discussion with County Attorney Robert Walsh on concealed carry legislation Monday, Cloud County board of commissioners approved allowing chairman Gail Engle to sign a letter to the Kansas Attorney General requesting a six-month exemption on the new concealed carry Legislation that takes effect July 1.
In other business, Ellen Anderson, JJA/Community Corrections Director inquired about insurance coverage for her office. Commissioners decided that JJA/Community Corrections should get their own insurance policy, not a policy under the County.
Anderson also presented a revised budget after which the board approved signing the Signatory Application for 2014 Community Corrections Grant Funds Final Revised Budget Summary and Budget Narrative.
The board received a number of 2014 budget appropriation requests to be considered when preparing the County budget.
These included Gary Dvorak, Concordia Senior Center, $4,000; Ashley McMillan, CloudCorp executive director, $55,000, the same as requested in 2013; Linda Sutton, NCK Small Business Development Center, $14,000; and, presented by Commissioner Caspers, Cloud County Resources Council, $5,000.
Sheryl Williams, County treasurer, presented information on the amount of sales tax and compensating use tax received in June (May sales) in the amount of $54,509.74, compared to the amount received in June 2012 of $57,215.59.
In other matters the board
•approved department payrolls totaling $130,814.48.
•had a telephone conference with KWROCC regarding the monthly trustee's meeting.
•approved signing road vacation of the road beginning 1/4 mile south of northwest corner of 26-7-5 then 1/4 mile west (also known as Green Road).
•heard an update on permits that have been issued and finalized and real estate inspections that have been completed from Marlene Stamm, County sanitarian.
Meetings attended during the past week included Engle, Coffee Time with Roger Nelson, June 21; and Commissioner Johnita Crawford and Engle, Juvenile Detention board meeting, June 19 in Concordia.
Justin Murdock, Solid Waste director, and Engle will attend the E-Waste meeting in Osborne June 27.
