Cloud County board meets with department heads

 Cloud County board of commissioners had its monthly meeting with department heads Tuesday with these county officials reporting:
REGISTER OF DEEDS Judy Lambert discussed legislation that may be proposed during the next legislative session to remove mortgage registration fees, and the negative impact it could have on counties and local property owners.
CLERK OF DISTRICT COURT LeaDawn Throckmorton discussed the funding of judicial budgets and possible furloughs for judicial employees; and she reported that Starla Nelson was sworn in as the new Magistrate Judge in Republic County Nov. 1.
HIGHWAY administrator Andy Asch reported representatives from FEMA will be in Cloud County Nov. 13.
IT director Jerry Collins reported he has been installing several new computers.
MAINTENANCE manager Troy Shepard discussed the heating and cooling system in the Courthouse.
SOLID WASTE director Justin Murdock reported his department has completed the 120 day cover for the construction/demolition site and that he and Dana Ringer attended the Solid Waste Operators Training course last week. He also said that county employees with CDL licenses will need to register with the state.
HEALTH Department administrator Diana Gering reported her department will conduct a Walk-In Flu Shot Clinic from 4:30-7:30 p.m., Nov. 14.
COUNTY CLERK Linda Bogart reported she and the commissioners will conduct the canvass for the USD 333 Special Election Question at 8 a.m., Nov. 14, and that budgets have been sent to the state.
During regular session, Asch presented the Design Contract with Cook, Flatt and Strobel for Bridge Project 15C-4617-01 (Bridge #523) located 1 mile west and 1 1/2 miles north of Hollis (East of 190th Road on the county line). The board approved signing the contract.
Asch also reported that the county's cost of gravel and sealing material will increase by 60 cents per ton from $6.50 per ton to $7.10 per ton beginning Jan. 1, 2014
Commissioners approved payment of the following invoices, on behalf of the Public Building Commission: City of Concordia, $240 and Performance Lawns, $4,973.96.
In other matters the board
•approved department payrolls totaling $134,399.77
•discussed the law enforcement project with Sheriff Brian Marks
 •discussed the concealed carry legislation and various other routine items with county attorney Robert Walsh
•discussed with Murdock the regulation that requires DOT inspection for the trailers at the Transfer Station
•Set Tuesday, Nov. 26, 6:30 p.m. at the Courthouse as the date, place and time for the annual Solid Waste meeting
Adjournment was at 11:40 a.m.
Meetings attended by commissioners the past week were: meeting with Secretary of Corrections Nov. 4; North Central Regional Planning Commission meeting in Beloit, Nov. 7, Johnita Crawford; Chemical Dependency meeting, Nov. 8, Gail Engle; study session with Concordia City commissioners, all commissioners.
Next regular commission meeting will be at 9 a.m., Nov. 18.
