Commission approves paying invoices

Cloud County board of commissioners Monday approved paying invoices on behalf of the Public Building Commission.
These included: City of Concordia, $88,677.62; Zahner Hansen Construction, $754.41; Zahner Hansen Construction, $18,110.05; and Zahner Hansen Construction, $3,152.39.
Tom Wierenga, Zahner Hansen Construction Group, gave the board an update on the progress of the Law Enforcement construction project.
In other business, the board approved two right-of-way use permits for Rural Water District #1 presented by Andy Asch, highway administrator.
One was for a buried waterline a half mile north of Union Road on 80th Road. The other was for a buried waterline a  half mile east of 150th Road on Eagle Road.
Lois Lervold asked about the possibility of expanding the hours of operation at the Transfer Station. She was told to return next week during Justin Murdock, Solid Waste director's appointment, so he could answer any questions she might have.
Gertrude Poe and Don Ramseyer, Cloud County Commission on Aging, presented the commission's 2014 budget request in the amount equivalent to one mill. The board will take the request under advisement when preparing the county budget.
In other matters the board:
•approved allowing the chairman to sign the conditions of a grant for the JJA presented by Ellen Anderson, JJA/Community Corrections director.
•discussed the bill submitted by the City of Concordia for payment by the Public Building Commission with Concordia city manager Larry Uri.
•discussed the Master Agreement and Pricing schedule for the County's
Plexar phone system with AT&T with Robert Walsh, county attorney.
•approved allowing the chairman to sign the Master Agreement and Pricing Schedule with AT&T for the County's Plexar System.
•heard a report from Sheriff Brian Marks on the damage in Miltonvale and the Aurora area because of the Saturday storms.
•approved the hire of Levi Herring as part-time corrections officer/transport driver to fill an open position effective May 13 at a rate of $10 per hour.
Meetings attended the past week by commissioners included: Gary Caspers, KWORCC Board of trustees meeting in  Topeka, May 16; Johnita Crawford, Juvenile Detention meeting, May 15 in Junction City; Gail Engle, May 17, KNCK Coffeetime.
The Courthouse and county offices will be closed May 27 in observance of Memorial Day. The board will meet again Tuesday, May 28.
