Police are actively searching for a dog that bit a 14-year-old girl in the face as she walked to school this morning in the 200 block of East 12th Street.
The dog, identified as an aggresive chocolate labrador, was last seen in the area of 12th and Lincoln streets.
According to Concordia Police Chief Chris Edin, the girl saw the dog as she was walking to school, and it followed her for three or four blocks, in a "stalking mode."
"She turned around to check and see where it was and it lunged at her, and jumped up and bit her in the face," Edin said.
The girl sustained a serious bite to her face, and was transported to Cloud County Health Center. She was transferred to Salina for further medical treatment. The bite was not life-threatening.
Edin said officers are searching the area for the dog, but do not know where it came from or who owns it.
The victim described the dog as medium to large in size, with short, almost solid brown, hair. She said it has a short snout, making it look like either a pit bull or a boxer.
Edin said a family member of the victim has offered a $100 reward for information that leads to the identification of the dog and its owner. Anyone with information about the dog bite is asked to call the Concordia Police Department at 243.1313, or Crimestoppers at 1.800.222.TIPS.
