Cloud County board of commissioners Monday approved 2013 employment agreements with three county officials.
Agreement for highway administrator/weed director, Andy Asch, called for a base salary of $39,688.06 plus an additional $13,300 for duties as weed director. The agreement for Justin Murdock, solid waste/recycling director, called for a wage of $17.15 per hour. Diana Gering, health administrator, will receive a base salary of $33,735 plus an additional $10,000 for other duties.
Commissioners also approved two new hires in the Health Department. Rhonda Fraser was hired as a home health aide/homemaker, to fill an open position at a salary of $9.50 per hour effective Feb. 4 and Jessica Begnoche was hired as a home health RN to fill an open position at a salary of $17.03 per hour effective Jan. 21.
In other business, John Forshee, director River Valley Extension District #4, gave an update and discussed the various programs available through the Extension District. Forshee reported the district is in the process of updating its phone system. Work is under way with Twin Valley to install a new phone system and Internet that would be compatible with all of the offices in the district.
These commissioners reported on meetings they attended in the past week: Gary Caseprs, KWORCC Board of Trustees meeting, Jan. 17, Topeka; Johnita Crawford, Juvenile Detention meeting, Jan. 16, Junction City; Gail Engle , Chemical Dependency Committee meeting Jan. 11; KNCK Coffeetime, Jan. 18; and graduation ceremonies at the Law Enforcement Academy with Undersheriff Strowig Jan. 18 at Hutchinson. All commissioners attended the owners meeting on Jan. 15.
In other matters the board
•approved department head payrolls totaling $136,286.10.
•conducted a 10-minute executive session with Sheriff Brian Marks to discuss non-elected personnel.
•discussed the Household Hazardous Waste program with Murdock.
•approved allowing Chairman Engle to sign the surety bonds for Rick Hanson, Sibley township treasurer and Linda Richard, Oakland township treasurer.
