Granting a request from Concordia police chief, Bruce Johnson, Cloud County board of commissioners Monday gave its permission for use of the old ALCO building for training classes.
In other business the board approved the following invoices on behalf of the Public Building Commission: Zahner Hansen Construction Group, Inc., $428,622.50; Goldberg Group Architects, $5,617.90; and Kansas State Treasurer, $195,552.10.
Carol Miller, CASA director, asked for permission to place blue pinwheels on the Courthouse square during the month of April for Child Abuse Awareness Month. Commissioners asked her to check with the maintenance department to be sure there aren't any maintenance projects planned.
Dave Tangemann, File Safe, discussed the possibility of installing security cameras and an access control entry system for the Courthouse. No decision was made. The board will continue to research the matter.
Concordia city manager Larry Uri, City of Concordia Utilities Director Chad Buckley and Thaniel Monaco, BG Consultants discussed the installation of the gas line for the North Development.
Justin Murdock, Solid Waste director, presented a draft of the recycling trailer agreement with the City of Clyde. The board will review the agreement and visit with the county attorney about approving it.
The board approved three separate resolutions approving appointments to the Juvenile/Community Corrections Advisory Board: Mark Fleming, Jewell County Commissioner; Al Parades, City of Concordia Representative; and Alison Mueller, Washington County Commissioner.
In other matters the board
—approved the hire of Jarron Baxter, Jerry Bunch and Taylor Solt as part-time corrections officers effective March 5 at a rate of $10 an hour.
—approved the FY2014 JJA grant application in the amount of $249,348 presented by Ellen Anderson, JJA/Community Corrections Director.
—visited with Ted Samuelson about the Jamestown Senior Center.
Meetings attended by board members last week were: CloudCorp annual meeting, March 7, Gary Caspers; and Chemical Dependency meeting, Gail Engle, March 8.
The board and Andy Asch will attend the NCK Highway Officials meeting April 3 in Minneapolis.
