County tax collections down

 Compensating use tax received in November in Cloud County is down from the amount received in 2012. Sheryl Williams, county treasurer, presented information to Cloud County commissioners at their Monday meeting showing that the amount received in November 2013 (October sales) was $55,786.35, compared to the amount received in November 2012, $64,608.74.
 In other business the board approved a resolution presented by Andy Asch, highway administrator, for the removal of a weight limit sign on Culvert No. 6421, located between sections 17 and 20 of 6-4, which bridge spans West Branch Creek.
Also approved was a classification change for Vincent Armstrong from utility worker to heavy equipment operator effective Dec. 2, with a wage change from $12.66 per hour to $13.44 per hour, to fill an open position.
 Asch discussed a possible change to the surfacing policy because of the cost of gravel increasing Jan. 1.
 Commissioners accepted the only proposal received for the employee Christmas luncheon from Larry Doyen doing business as Texas Red's Catering.
 In other business the board:
•approved the payrolls for all departments totaling $132,649.18.
•reviewed the month expense vouchers for all departments.
•discussed a concern commissioner Johnita Crawford had received with Steve Williams, field appraiser.
•approved a refund of $100 to Bill Mason for a wastewater permit, which was not needed because of the discovery of a new system on the property.
•discussed the concealed carry legislation and various other items with County Attorney Robert Walsh.
•approved donating $250 to the Cloud County Food Bank from the employees of Cloud County.
•discussed the Internet service for the courthouse with IT director Jerry Collins.
•visited with Everett Ford about the special assessment on a piece of property he purchased at a prior tax foreclosure sale.
•approved accepting the proposal from Cunningham Communications for fiber optic to the courthouse.
 Meetings attended by commissioners during the past week included: Crawford, Tourism meeting and CloudCorp meeting, Nov. 19; and the Juvenile Detention meeting in Junction City, Nov. 20; Gary Caspers, Cloud County Resources Council meeting, Nov. 18.
 The board will attend the Solid Waste Committee meeting at 6:30 p.m., today in the courthouse meeting room.
 Adjournment was at 11:40 a.m.
 The courthouse and county offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29, for the Thanksgiving holiday.
