Dodge City ends T-Birds season

DODGE CITY — The Dodge City Conquistadors ended Cloud County’s season with a pair of wins in the first round of the NJCAA Division II District E Softball Tournament on Saturday.
Hitting four home runs, Dodge City got past Cloud County 10-8 in the first game of the best of three series.
The Conquistadors won the second game, 8-5.
Cloud County finished up 14-20.
Dodge City (23-20) will play Highland (32-8) on Saturday.
Jessica Downard doubled home two runs in the top of the third inning to give Cloud County a lead in game one.
Kaylee Heckman hit a three-run home run for Dodge City in the bottom of the third.
Cloud County reclaimed the lead at 4-3 with two runs in the top of the fourth inning.
The Conquistadors answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning, and led 8-4.
Amanda Best and Rhiannon Beck homered.
Cloud County made it 8-5 with a run in the fifth inning and then tied the game at 8-8 with three runs in the top of the sixth.
Sierra Eason homered with Tavia Fazel aboard, and Downard hit a solo home run.
A two-run home run by Best in the bottom of the sixth put Dodge City back on top, 10-8.
Cloud County was retired in order in the top of the seventh.
Savanna Luke pitched one inning in taking the loss. She gave up two runs on one hit and struck out one.
Kelsey Jones allowed eight runs, five earned, on nine hits, struck out five and walked one in five innings.
Downard was 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs. She drove in three runs.
Eason had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs.
Fazel had two hits.
In the second game, Cloud County jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
Kaylee Mick tripled home three runs and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jones.
Heckman hit a three-run home run, and Brandy Huff had a solo shot as Dodge City tied the game in the bottom of the first.
A solo home run by Heckman put the Conquistadors up 5-4 in the third inning.
Cloud County tied the game when Eason singled and scored on a base hit by Chatley Lovvorn in the top of the fourth.
Dodge City scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to go up 8-5.
Cloud County left six baserunners stranded over the final four innings.
Luke took the loss. She gave up eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits in six innings. She struck out nine and walked four.
Mick had two hits and drove in three runs.
Lovvorn and Madison Bryant had two hits each.
