CHAPMAN — The Concordia eighth grade volleyball team placed second in the North Central Kansas League Tournament on Saturday.
Concordia lost its first match to Abilene, won four straight matches, and then fell again to Abilene in the championship match.
Abilene, which knocked off Clay Center in the opening round, defeated the second-seeded Panthers 25-21, 25-16.
Concordia got past Chapman in three sets, 25-13, 25-27, 15-10.
The Panthers then downed Marysville in straight sets.
Concordia beat top-seeded Wamego in straight sets, 25-21, 25-10 to reach the title match.
Needing to beat Abilene twice, the Panthers won the first match, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23.
Abilene won the second match to claim the championship, 25-13, 25-23.
The Concordia seventh grade suffered two straight losses in the tournament.
Clay Center defeated the Panthers, 15-25, 25-11, 15-13.
Concordia then lost 21-25, 25-18, 20-18 to second-seeded Wamego.
