JV tennis team places seventh

SALINA — The Concordia junior varsity tennis team placed seventh in the Salina Central Invitational on Monday.
Concordia scored seven points in the meet.
Salina Central captured the team title with 27 points. Manhattan was second with 24 points and McPherson was third with 15.
Isaac Sprague finished fifth in number one singles for Concordia. He lost his first match to Daniel Holthus, McPherson, 6-4 and then bounced back to beat Caleb Dougherty, Salina South, 6-2 and Peter Moyer, Maize South, 6-4.
Josh Timme placed seventh in number two singles for the Panthers. He was beaten 6-1 by Brantley Straub, Salina Central, and 6-5 by Cole Leiker, Salina Central, and then downed Zach Ellis, Maize South, 6-3.
Andrew Sheely and Bailey Kymer were eighth in number one doubles for Concordia. They fell 6-3 to Cayden Colucci and Duy Nguyen, Salina South; 6-3 to Liam Jones and Ty Brull, Salina Central; and 6-3 to Wakon Lee and Max Kubik, Maize South.
Duaine Otott and Ben Strommen finished fifth in number two doubles for the Panthers. They were beaten 6-3 by Justin Gittle and Ben Gorman, Manhattan, and then defeated Ethan McCary and Harrison Jett, Salina South, 6-3 and Prince Kramer and Daylin Champman, McPherson, 6-3.
“Both Isaac and Josh played some excellent tennis today. The downfall for both was their poor performance on services, which cost each of them a match. I like how they hit the ball and set up points,” Concordia coach Steven Mitchell said, “This was Bailey’s first meet, and he and Andrew lost three competitive matches. Again, the service game was an area that really hurt these two today. Duaine and Ben had a solid day all the way around. They picked up two very solid wins and played well together. It was a good experience for all the guys today.”
