Letter to the Editor 10-4-13

Dear Editor,
I was one of the people lining the Main Street to watch the parade last Saturday and, although it was a very nice parade, I missed the multitude of old cars, antique tractors, kid’s impromptu entries and many of the entries that make a parade fun to watch. I did see, however, that a very large percentage of entries were commercial and government.
The reason, you see, is that everyone not only has to spend many dollars, and many hours of labor, preparing their entry for display, they are now required to pay to participate, and unlike the commercial entries, do not get a monetary return.
I don't know where this brilliant idea originated, or who was responsible, but it needs to be changed!
An individual should be encouraged and thanked for their willingness to participate, not charged.
