Subject: Taking care of the needy
Down Memory Lane
To mock the poor was to mock the God who made them. Our parents and society passed this value on to us.
We walked to school with the so-called disadvantaged.
Vagrants would come to our backdoor at mealtime . . . as kids we would say, “Mom, Mom, there's a tramp at our door.”
Mother would say, “Don't call them that. They are travelers.” Teaching us Christianity 101. No government. The human solution. A better time in my memory . . . of now beginning eight decades.
