This letter is two-fold in its purpose but has one major idea: thank you!
First, , we would like to thank all the individuals and businesses who stepped up to the plate and hit a home run when we were collecting pledges for the Department of Commerce grant application. We needed to secure at least $50,000 in pledges in one week for the pledge application which yields a 70% refundable tax credit to the Kansas taxpayer. That seemed like an insurmountable task when we started, yet we got the word out and we had achieved the $50,000 in pledges by the end of the second day. We currently have $145,500 in pledges and more coming in every day. If we receive the grant, we will be limited to $225,000 in pledges which are eligible for the 70% tax credit, so if you would like us to put your name on a list to be notified, we have started such a list in the office. Minimum pledge amount is $250. Call 785-243-2553 if you need more information or would like to be added to the list. Thank you for your generosity. We also could not have achieved this without the coverage of the media. KNCK donated air time for numerous commercials and informational spots and the Blade Empire gave us front page coverage. The Salina Journal even picked up our story and we had pledges from that area as well.
Second, a big thank you goes to Mike Linden, conductor, and the Heartland Chorus for their benefit concert for the Brown Grand last Sunday. The wonderful medley of Broadway show tunes seemed to be a very appropriate honor to the grand dame of theatre in the area: The Brown Grand. A rousing concert takes time, talent & practice and we appreciate all the hours the chorus, accompanist Sarah Harvey, and Mike put in to prepare for the concert. Over $400 in donations were given as a result of that concert.
Events like benefit concerts from the Heartland Chorus, Left of Center and other fundraising efforts by local groups, plus individual donations have made the renovation efforts come closer to reality; we are halfway there, but as the costs have grown to over $600,000, the necessity of finding more funds to start the project are even more imperative.
Hopefully, if we get the grant, we will be able to start work in July on the renovations and finish up by next February. Typically about 1/3 of those who apply for this grant are awarded. Keep your fingers crossed and your thoughts positive about the approval of the grant. Again, thank you for your magnanimous support.
