I would like to expand on the comments about buying American by Mr. Meyer in last week’s letter. While it’s very true that many companies have outsourced their products in the past decades, there are still many great products that are made in the USA. Outside of many electronics you can find items that are made in the USA in just about any category.
About six years ago, I became interested in trying to buy mostly products that were made in the USA. I have done countless hours of searching and I am amazed by how many small companies there are that produce their products in the USA. Over the past three years, approximately 85% of all my purchases have been made in the USA. This includes all types of categories including clothing (everything I wear except for one pair of tennis court shoes was made in the USA ), hand tools, kitchenware, building supplies, bedding, nonelectronic toys, office supplies, and many more. I have started working with a few local businesses to carry more of these products and hope to work with many more.
I know that everything we need won’t be made in the USA, but instead of complaining about how many products are foreign made, let’s celebrate and promote all the great products that we do make.
