Letter to the Editor 8-2-13

Dear Editor,
The Fast and Furious–that’s what we’re thinking of calling this project because the excitement and enthusiasm has been SO amazing! For those of you who haven’t heard, an exciting thing is happening in our community as we see businesses and community members working together for the Concordia Community Park Project. We want to thank everyone who stopped by our booth at the Cloud County Fair and signed up to help. This was our official kick-off for fundraising, and we are so pleased to announce that we already have commitments for $40,200 in cash donations!!! Our goal is to raise $150,000 by Build Week, which is scheduled for April 23-27, 2014.
We want to thank the Blade-Empire and KNCK radio for helping us get the word out. Most people we talked to at the Fair either had read the articles in our local paper or listened to the various interviews and announcements on our local radio station. We also want to thank our city commissioners, city manager and other members of the city staff for their great cooperation in the effort to improve City Park.
Dennis Wille, our designer from Play by Design, has prepared a wonderful plan for our park. He has been so impressed with the level of support and enthusiasm shown by the community!
How can you stay informed about our project? In addition to following reports in the Blade-Empire and on KNCK radio, you may check out our website, concordiaparkproject.com, and “like” our Facebook page by searching “Concordia Community Park Project.”
How can you be involved? We need volunteers to help assemble the park on Build Days, cook meals and treats for the workers and help with child care, so young parents can help build the park. We need folks who have tools they are willing to loan and skilled construction workers who can help guide the rest of us on Build Days. If you want to volunteer, please call Missy LeDuc, 275-2049; or Marsha Wentz, 243-1801.
Want to donate? Businesses and individuals can sponsor playground components that range in donation price from $10,000 down to $250. We are selling engraved fence pickets for $75 each and engraved brick pavers for $30. Something as simple as dropping your pocket change into a jar and donating those coins will help build this park. To donate, please call Bev Mortimer at 243-0836.
We will do our best to keep you all informed as we go. Feel free to contact any committee member with questions. We are available to speak at club or group meetings, so let us know if you need more information. Thanks again for all your support!
Sincerely,
Ashley McMillan and
Janet Lowell, project coordinators
