March tax report up from last yea

The Cloud County sales tax and compensating use tax received in March (Feb. sales) 2013 was up more than $1,000 from the amount received in March 2012.
Cloud County treasurer Sheryl Williams reported at Monday's county board of commissioners meeting that the amount received in 2013 was $59,859.64 compared to $58,526.56 received during the same time period in 2012.
In other business Andy Asch, highway administrator, discussed a correction to the tire bids. The total for Thompson OK Tire should have been $2,655.76 instead of $3,333.36 and the total for Becker Tire should have been $12,870.33 instead of $3,757.53. Total cost of all tires to be purchased is $39,349.20.
Asch reported the culvert needing repairs is on 270th Road (north of Union Road) and not on 170th Road, as reported in last week's minutes. He also discussed various other road projects his department will be starting soon.
Larry Uri, Concordia city manager, presented information on dispatch expenses for board review. Uri and Concordia Chief of Police Bruce Johnson will return at a later date to go over the information with the board.
Health administrator Diana Gering discussed the fees for the CPR classes and the possibility of changing fees. She also discussed the contract with Cloud County Community College for the 2013-2014 school year and other routine matters.
Following a presentation by CASA representatives Jennifer Kindel, Julie Snavely, Diane Price and Sonia DeRusseau, commissioners signed a proclamation designating April as Child Abuse Awareness Month.
Kindel gave the board an overview of services, training opportunities that are available through CASA and gave a report on the number of cases filed in 2012 and so far in 2013.
Commissioner Gary Caspers reported he attended the Homeland Security meeting March 26 in Beloit, where the possibility of conducting training for teachers and administrators on school safety and school shootings was discussed.
Commissioner Johnita Crawford reported she attended the North Central Regional Planning meeting March 28 in Beloit and completed the Leadership Training Course March 26.
Jerry Collins, commander of Concordia VFW, talked with the board about the Veterans' Memorial located on the Courthouse square and their proposed plans to update the memorial.
In other matters the board
—approved department payrolls totaling $129,808.53.
—approved signing a proclamation designating April as Fair Housing Month.
