Margaret Hattan died Jan. 23, 2013, at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, Kan.
She was born at rural Deweese, Neb., to James and Clara (Barta) Mazour on Dec. 30, 1927. After graduating from Nelson High School in May 1945, she worked at the office of the county treasurer until her marriage to Hubert "Hugh" Hattan on June 7, 1949, in Deweese. She worked for Continental Oil Company in Lincoln, Neb., while Hugh was in dental school.
In July 1952, they moved to Concordia, where he started his dental practice with Dr. C.J. Whitney. Over the years, she was very involved with Jaycee Jaynes (president), Cub Scouts, Camp Fire Girls (Council president plus leader and other board positions). She belonged to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for almost 50 years and served as Regent and held other offices. As a longtime member of St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and the CCHC Auxiliary, she served as president and on other committees. She was a member of the Altar Society and two bridge clubs.
Survivors include daughters, Susan and husband, Steve Kittrell, Washington, D.C., Linda and husband Ron Logan, Olathe; sons, Dr. Greg Hattan and wife Janice, Concordia, Richard Hattan and wife Patti, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Dr. Mike Hattan and wife Carla, Hays, Kan.; grandchildren, Justin and Jennifer Hattan, Brett and Brandon Logan, Jessica (Hattan) Christensen and Paul Hattan, Holly and Ross Hattan; great-grandchildren, Alexander and Benjamin Christensen and Colin Logan; and two sisters, Kathryn Murtaugh and Cecilia Mazour, both of Lincoln, Neb.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband Hugh on Feb. 25, 2009, and infant sister Mary.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. with an Altar Society Rosary at 5 p.m. and Vigil Services at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with the Rev. Barry Brinkman, and burial will follow the services in St. Concordia Cemetery.
