Police pursuit lands Clay Center man in hospital

A police pursuit over the weekend sent a 20-year-old Clay Center man to the hospital.
According to Concordia Police Chief Bruce Johnson, Kaleb Ricky James Howell, Clay Center, was driving through Concordia Saturday night in a 2003 Dodge Stratus that had been stolen from Mitchell County.
Johnson said Concordia Police had a description of the stolen passenger car, and spotted it Saturday night in the 800 block of Archer. When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, Howell fled. The pursuit continued west on West 6th Street.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, which worked the accident,  the stolen vehicle left the roadway at Second Avenue and 6th Street, went airborne, drove through the yards of six residences, stuck a parked vehicle and a tree, then came to a rest. Johnson said debris from the truck that was struck also damaged a house and another vehicle.
The Highway Patrol reported Howell was not wearing a seatbelt and was disabled in the wreck. He was taken to Cloud County Health Center, and Johnson said he was then transported to Wichita via ambulance for treatment of injuries.
Johnson said charges are pending in the incident.
