REX LEE WORKMAN
Rex Lee Workman, 76, died unexpectedly Friday morning May 10, 2013 at his home in Overland Park , Kansas.
A celebration of his life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 18, at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel located at 8024 Santa Fe Drive in Overland Park.
Rex was born January 27, 1937, in Concordia, Kansas to Bennie and Eva Workman. Rex was a standout football player at Concordia High School and went on to play football at Montana State University. He was a member of the 1956 National Championship team that played in the Aluminum Bowl. On Oct. 30, 1987, he was inducted into the Montana State Athletic Hall of Fame.
Rex returned to Concordia and married his high school sweetheart, Donna Faye Logan. Rex and Donna had three children before her death in 1966. In 1968, Rex married Marjorie Ruth DeSico who had two children, and the family moved to Overland Park. Rex spent much of his career in sales with French Nelson Russell and the Kellogg Company.
Rex was a devoted and loving family man who shared his lifelong passion for boating with family and friends. The family could be found most summer weekends on local area lakes and especially enjoyed annual vacations to Table Rock Lake. We will always have wonderful memories of Rex as captain of the ship.
After retirement, Rex and Marjorie enjoyed traveling, socializing, and, most of all, dancing, until her death in 2010. When not out and about, Rex could typically be found in front of the TV with the remote in one hand, petting a dog with the other.
Rex loved to tell a good story, and he provided laughs and smiles to everyone who had the good fortune to hear them. His generous and caring nature will be missed.
Rex is survived by his five children, nine grandchildren, and his dog, Annie:
