SISTER JANE GUENETTE
Sister Jane Guenette died Nov. 11, 2012, at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia, Kan. She was 97 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 78 years. She was born in Dryburg, Mich., on May 22, 1915, to Leonard and Rubia Savoie Guenette, the fourth of 15 children, and was baptized Jane Alexina. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, Kan., on July 3, 1933. On March 18, 1934, Jane Alexina received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Mary Noelle, later changing her name to Sister Jane. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1935, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1938.
Sister Jane received an A.B. in Education from Marymount College, Salina, Kan., in 1959. She taught elementary grades in parochial schools in Chicago, Ill., Fairbury, Neb., Beloit, Junction City, Herington, Damar, Palco and Leawood, Kan. In 1989 she retired to Grand Island, Neb., and then moved to the Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia in 2003.
Sister Jane was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her brother Gerald of Milwaukee, Wis., and by her sisters Therese McDonald of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. and Noella Makosky of Escanaba, Mich.
A Bible Vigil Service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at 7 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Mary Savoie as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with the Rev. James Hoover presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery. Chaput-Buoy Mortuary, 325 W. 6th St., Concordia, Kan., is in charge of arrangements.
