GREAT BEND — Caleb Blumer and Trevor Rinne tossed shutouts as the Cloud County Thunderbirds defeated Barton County twice in the Jayhawk Conference Western Division doubleheader on Friday.
Blumer gave up five hits, struck out one and walked one as Cloud County won the first game, 5-0.
Rinne pitched all nine innings in the T-Birds’ 3-0 victory in game two. He gave up eight hits, struck out three and didn’t walk any.
Cloud County defeated Barton County 11-7 and 13-6 on Thursday to improve to 12-14 overall and 5-7 in the Jayhawk West.
In the first game on Friday, the T-Birds scored one run in the second inning.
Kody Cox walked and scored on a double by Austin White.
Cloud County upped the lead to 4-0 with three runs in the third inning.
Jackson Cain led off with a single.
Roger Diaz walked with one out and Cal Zagurski singled home a run.
Diaz scored on a single by Chase Reibenspies.
An error allowed Zagurski to score.
White was hit by a pitch, stole second, went to third on an error and stole home in the fourth inning to put the T-Birds up 4-0.
Cloud County scored five runs on five hits.
The second game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning.
Jesse Rall was hit by a pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cox to give Cloud County a 1-0 advantage.
The T-Birds added two runs in the sixth inning.
Rall singled and Diaz followed with a double.
A ground ball by Skye O’Neil got Rall home.
Jordan Brown singled in Diaz.
Diaz had four hits in four at bats.
Brown had three hits in the game.
Cloud County trailed 4-3 in the first game on Thursday.
Rall singled in two runs in the top of the fifth inning to put the T-Birds up 5-4.
Cloud County scored two runs in the sixth inning, and led 7-4.
The Cougars pulled even at 7-7 with one run in the sixth inning and two in the bottom of the seventh.
Cloud County then scored four runs in the top of the first extra inning.
JD Peterson singled with the bases loaded to drive in one run.
Cain knocked in a run with a single.
White scored on a fly ball by Rall.
An error allowed Peterson to score, and give Cloud County an 11-7 lead.
Brendan Hardaway gave up two singles in the bottom of the eighth, but worked out of the jam to get the win. He pitched an inning and two-thirds and did not allow a run. He gave up three hits.
Steven Federau allowed five runs, three earned, on nine hits in six innings. He struck out four and walked one.
Taylor Keller gave up two runs, one earned, in a third of an inning. He walked one.
White had three hits and scored three runs in the game.
Peterson, Cain and Zagurski had two hits each.
In the second game, Cloud County trailed 2-1 before scoring six runs in the top of the fifth inning to go up 7-2.
Diaz drove in two runs in the inning.
Barton County made it 7-4 with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Cloud County tacked on six runs in the top of the sixth inning, and led 13-4.
Diaz doubled in two runs. O’Neil had a two-run single.
Barton County scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Zach DeMars pitched all seven innings to get the win. He allowed six runs, four earned, on 11 hits, struck out one and walked three.
Diaz drove in five runs for the T-Birds.
Cain had two hits.
