CHS tennis team finishes fifth

ELLSWORTH — Joshua Wood, playing number one singles, and Andrew Henderson and Brett Rosenbaum, playing number two doubles, placed fourth for the Concordia High School tennis team in the Ellsworth Invitational on Thursday.
Concordia placed fifth as a team with 26 points.
Wichita Classical won the tournament with 63 points. Abilene was second with 55 and Central Plains was third with 34.
Wood dropped his first match to Max Kice, Wichita Classical, 8-0. He defeated Charlie Simpson, Sterling, 8-3, and Chris Collier, Hoisington, 8-2, before falling 8-2 to Kolten Coup, Abilene, in the third-place match.
Henderson and Rosenbaum opened with an 8-6 win over Zander Strandberg and AJ Thurman, Hoisington. They suffered an 8-6 loss to Tyler Roush and Preston Vitosh, Wichita Classical, in the semifinals and then lost 8-7 (7-3) to Isaiah Jensen and Nethan Cauthon, Central Plains, in the third-place match.
Malachi Carder and Isaiah Steffen, playing number one doubles for Concordia, were beaten 8-0 by Brendan Anderson and Chase Bourbon, Ellsworth, in the opening round. They knocked off Paxton Dody and Eli Hurley, Central Plains, and lost 8-0 to Ty Fulbright and Josiah Watney, Sterling, in the fifth-place match.
