Eighth grade boys advance to championship game

CLAY CENTER — Concordia advanced to the championship game of the Eighth Grade Boys North Central Kansas League Basketball Tournament by beating Clay Center 54-36 in the semifinals on Monday night.
The Panthers, the top seed in the tournament, received a bye in the opening round, and will play in the title game at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Clay Center got past Chapman in the first round.
Concordia (12-1) jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the semifinal matchup.
The Panthers scored 10 points in the second stanza to nine for Clay Center, and had a 24-14 halftime lead.
Concordia added 14 points in the third quarter. Clay Center scored 13, and trailed 38-27.
The Panthers tacked on 16 points in the final period, and gave up just nine.
Cooper Holmes led the way for Concordia with 23 points.
Trevor Tholstrup scored 13 points for the Panthers. Emmanuel Mares and Ethan Bechard added eight points each.
Clay Center (5-8) will play in the third-place game on Thursday.
