Eighth grade finishes up regular season with win
Concordia finished up the regular season by knocking off Clay Center 50-33 in eighth grade boys’ basketball play Thursday night in the Concordia Junior-Senior High School gymnasium.
The Panthers are now 11-1, and will be the top seed in the North Central Kansas League Tournament to be played next week in Clay Center. They will play the winner of the game between Clay Center and Chapman at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Concordia led Clay Center 12-8 after one quarter of play.
The Panthers gave up just five points in the second period, and scored 11 to go up 23-13 at halftime.
Concordia tacked on 13 points in the third quarter, to 11 for Clay Center, to make it a 36-24 game.
The Panthers added 14 points in the final stanza to nine for Clay Center.
Cooper Holmes scored 20 points for Concordia. Emmanuel Mares finished with 11 points and Trent Tholstrup added eight.
The Concordia B-team defeated Clay Center, 29-24.
Concordia was up 15-11 at halftime.
Clay Center closed the gap to 25-23 after three quarters of play.
The Panthers limited Clay Center to one point in the fourth period, and scored four.
Dalton Walters paced Concordia with 12 points.
Jared Knapp and Colby Trost scored six points each.
