Four ConKids wrestlers place at state tournament
TOPEKA — The Concordia Kids Wrestling Club had four competitors place in the top four at the Kansas State Wrestling Folkstyle Championship Tournament at the Kansas Expocentre.
Wyatt Trost, competing in the 95-pound class in the 10-and-under division, finished second.
Trost pinned Kayden Christiansen, Larkin, in the opening round. He beat Troy Marez, Olathe Southside Falcons, 7-2 and got past Maximus Shannon, Winfield, 2-0, in the semifinals.
Kyle Haas, Maize Wrestling Club, edged Trost in the championship match.
Hunter Schroeder placed third in the 82-pound class in the 10-and-under division.
Zachary Strait, 88 pounds, 12-and-under, and Eyann Zimmerman, 150 pounds, 10-and-under, finished fourth.
Schroeder was beaten 3-2 by JD Robson, Greater Gold, in the opening round. He pinned Caemaen Blake, Ogden Outlaws, in 51 seconds; Brady McDonald, Chanute, in 36 seconds; and Peyton Besco, Rose Hill, in 1:50.
In a rematch with Robson, Schroeder recorded a 5-2 victory. He then beat Blake Herman, Hays Wrestling Club, 5-3 in the third-place match.
Strait pinned Jadon Koehler, Pratt, in his opening match, and then lost by fall to Jevon Parrish, Olathe Southside Falcons.
In the consolation bracket, Strait pinned Noah Yeamans, East Kansas; beat Couy Weil, Dodge City, 10-7; and pinned Bret Hull, Derby.
Parrish won a 9-1 decision over Strait in the third-place match.
Zimmerman pinned Rylan Hays, Phillipsburg Kids Wrestling, in his opening match, and then defeated Mario Perez, Team of Hard Knox, 3-0.
Deston Miller, Hutchinson, pinned Zimmerman in the semifinals.
Zimmerman won by injury default over Carson Ukele, Sabetha, and was pinned by Creighton Johnson, Beloit, the third-place match.
