Hake finishes second at Beloit Invitational
BELOIT — The Concordia High School wrestling team had just one competitor, Drake Hake, place in the Beloit Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Hake went 3-1 to finish second in the 138-pound class.
Concordia finished in a tie with Hill City for 14th place in the 20-team tournament with 34 points.
Plainville captured the team title with 176.5 points. Colby was second with 165 and Marysville was third with 145.
Hake, who was unbeaten going into the tournament, won his first three matches before falling 5-1 to James Landoll, Marysville, in the championship match.
After pinning Tristan Houser, Plainville, in 1:29 in the opening round, Hake stuck Christian Swahlen, DeSoto, in 1:40 in the quarterfinals.
Hake then beat Macen Shull, Colby, 3-1 in the semifinals before losing to Landoll.
Gage Canfield, 120, and Kyle Marks, 220, picked up two wins each for Concordia.
Canfield pinned Hunter DeMars, Clay Center, in the opening round. He lost an 11-4 major decision to Adam Pelfrey, Blue Valley Southwest.
In the consolation bracket, Canfield pinned Lance Hall, Osborne, in 56 seconds. He was then pinned by Josiah Endreshak, Salina South.
Marks pinned Casey Hilton, Marysville in the opening round. He lost by fall to Channing Fortin, Oberlin, in the quarterfinals, and then beat Lody Black, Clay Center, 5-2 before falling 5-2 to Gage Clark, Chanute.
Brentin Edwards, 106; Isaac Sprague, 126; Lance Collins, 132; Keenan Edwards, 145; Shea Crum, 170; and Zak Romo, 285, each went 0-2 in the tournament.
Concordia will host its dual tournament on Friday and Saturday.
