Hasch, Timme record top three finishes

SALINA — Concordia’s Rachel Hasch and Danielle Timme recorded top three finishes in singles play at the Sacred Heart Invitation- al on Saturday.

keeping out of the heat much of the day,” Concordia coach Steven Mitchell said, “We came in fourth as a team, but were just one match from second. We did look a little rusty at times and several of the girls had some early season jitters to work through. I think they all learned a great deal today and this experience will ben- efit them going into a couple of tough meets this week.”

to beat Autumn Denham, Smoky Valley, 8-4 and defeated Molly Rea, Smoky Valley, 8-1.

from them. They won a tight match against a fill-in team from Beloit, before losing to a very strong number one team from Beloit. These two girls really learned a lot today and showed real promise as a solid doubles team,” Mitchell said.

Posting three consecutive wins, Hasch placed first in number two singles for the Panthers.

“Danielle got off to a slow start today and wasn’t able to keep up with Ford of Abi- lene. She showed a lot of nervousness that she was able to play through and pick up a couple of nice wins. The match against Rea of Smoky Valley was very well played and a great win for Danielle,” Mitchell said.

Gross and Morgan lost 8- 4 to Brenna Barrett and Sam Reiff, Abilene. They were beaten 8-2 by Alex Denham and Kathleen Greene, Sacred Heart, and 8-2 by Amy Kempke and Emmy Kempke, Ellsworth.

Timme finished third in number one singles with a 2-1 record.

Concordia placed fourth as a team with 15 points.

Hasch opened with an 8- 3 win over Susie Geiger, Abi- lene. She shut out Hannah Junt, Sacred Heart, 8-0 and then downed Katie Klassen, Smoky Valley, 8-4.

Abilene won the tourna- ment with 21 points. Smoky Valley was second with 16 points and Ellsworth also scored 16 points, and fin- ished third.

“Rachel started her sea- son off very strong today. She won all three of her matches, and was in control the entire time,” Mitchell said, “Rachel did a great job of mixing her shots and adjusting to her opponents’ style of play.”

Hittle and Zimmerman suffered an 8-4 loss to Carly Wilson and Mallory Olberd- ing, Abilene. They downed Xandra Bourell and Jordan Bentz, Beloit, 8-6 and then fell 8-1 to Emily Brandt and Kellin Palmateer, Beloit, 8-1.

“Julie and Marissa also saw their first varsity experi- ence today. They started off playing well, and gave Abi- lene a very good match. In their next two matches they didn’t play with as much intensity and energy. I think once they get used to play- ing longer matches they will be able to improve in this area. They learned a lot today, and did a nice job working on some of their weak areas,” Mitchell said.
