Lions meet Clyde in district championship
CLIFTON — Breaking open a close game with nine runs in the top of the fifth inning, the Concordia Lions knocked off the Concordia Knights of Columbus 15-7 in the semifinals of the Peewee Baseball District Tournament Thursday night.
The Lions will play the Clyde Bluejays in the championship game at 8:30 tonight. The Knights of Columbus will play in the third-place game.
Leading just 6-4 heading into the fifth inning, the Lions sent 13 batters to the plate.
Beau Bonebrake had a single and a double, drove in two runs and scored two. Alex Bonebrake had two singles and scored two runs.
The Lions took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Kyle Palmquist and Beau Bonebrake each singled and scored.
Two runs in the bottom of the first pulled the Knights of Columbus even at 2-2.
Drake Revell and Jacob Williams singled and scored for the Knights of Columbus.
The Lions reclaimed the lead at 3-2 with a run in the third inning.
Tacking on three runs in the top of the fourth inning, the Lions led 6-2.
The Knights of Columbus made it a 6-4 game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Putting up nine runs in the top of the fifth inning, the Lions pushed the lead to 15-4.
The Knights of Columbus scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Alex Bonebrake started on the mound for the Lions. Chase Parker finished up.
Williams did the pitching for the Knights of Columbus.
Beau Bonebrake had four hits and scored four runs for the Lions.
Parker and Alex Bonebrake had two hits and scored three runs each.
Kyle Palmquist and Taylor Gropp scored two runs each.
Revell had three hits and scored three runs for the Knights of Columbus.
Nathan Lawrence had three hits and Williams scored three runs.
