Panthers drop opener

Getting its season started earlier than expected, the Concordia eighth grade boys' basketball team lost 43-32 to Sacred Heart in a home game on Monday.
The Panthers were originally scheduled to open their season by hosting Eisenhower Middle School on Thursday, but had the Sacred Heart game added.
Sacred Heart bolted to a 17-12 lead in the first quarter.
Concordia was outscored 14-9 in the second stanza, and trailed 31-21 at halftime.
The Panthers limited Sacred Heart to four points in the third quarter, and scored six to make it 35-27.
Sacred Heart added eight points in the period. Concordia scored five.
Aceyn Cash scored 20 points for Concordia.
The Concordia seventh grade picked up a 37-26 win over a Sacred Heart team made up of seventh and eighth graders.
The game was tied at 9-9 after one quarter of play.
Sacred Heart outscored Concordia 8-7 in the second period, and led 17-16 at halftime.
The Panthers were limited to five points in the third quarter, and Sacred Heart scored six to go up 23-21.
Concordia then poured in 16 points in the final period, and gave up just three points.
Joey Henderson scored 21 points for Concordia, 12 in the final quarter.
