T-Birds get one win over Colby

COLBY — Looking to earn a split in its first Jayhawk Conference Western Division series of the season, the Cloud County Thunderbirds defeated Colby Community College 4-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Monday.
The second game was scoreless when it was halted in the bottom of the fourth inning because of snow.
Cloud County, 4-7 overall, lost 11-1 and 15-1 to Colby on Sunday.
In game one on Monday, the T-Birds took a 1-0 lead when Aaric Woodyard singled and scored on a ground ball by Roger Diaz in the top of the second inning.
Colby scored a run in the third inning to tie the game.
Cloud County went on top to stay, 4-1, with three runs in the top of the fourth.
Skye O’Neil led off with a single, and Chase Reibenspies singled with one out.
Woodyard walked to load the bases, and Diaz knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly.
A single by Kody Cox got Reibenspies home.
Woodyard scored on a wild pitch.
Zachary Larkin pitched the first six innings to get the win for Cloud County. He gave up one run on three hits, struck out four and walked nine.
Taylor Keller worked a perfect seventh inning.
Diaz drove in two runs for the T-Birds, and Woodyard scored two runs.
In the first game on Sunday, Colby put up three runs in the first inning.
Jackson Cain singled and scored in the top of the second inning for Cloud County.
Colby added one run in the second inning, one in the third, four in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth.
The Trojans finished with 11 runs on 10 hits.
Steven Federau took the loss. He allowed nine runs, eight earned, on eight hits, struck out three and walked three.
Mikabe Erdman went an inning and a third and allowed two runs on two hits. He walked two.
Cain had two of Cloud County’s four hits.
Colby got out to six runs in the first inning in game two.
The Trojans tacked on seven runs in the second, and led 13-0.
Jordan Brown singled and scored in the top of the sixth inning for Cloud County.
Colby scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Zach DeMars gave up 10 runs, seven earned, on seven hits and walked three in one inning in taking the loss.
Matthew Forsythe allowed five runs on eight hits, struck out two and walked two in five innings.
Cal Zagurski had two hits for the T-Birds.
