T-Birds remain unbeaten in conference play
Cloud County remained unbeaten in Jayhawk Conference play by defeating Neosho County 4-2 in a home match on Tuesday.
The third-ranked Thunderbirds, now 13-3 overall, improved to 7-0 in the Jayhawk Conference, and tied for first place with Barton County.
Freshman Chris Lavery scored two goals in the first half to give Cloud County a 2-0 lead.
“The game probably should have been over at halftime. We had two great opportunities to go up 4-0,” Cloud County coach Steve Ralos said.
Neosho County, now 6-5-2 overall and 2-4-2 in the Conference, converted on a free kick in the second half to make it 2-1.
The Panthers would score again to pull even at 2-2.
“We made a defensive error and gave up a goal,” Ralos said.
A goal by sophomore Francis Villalta gave Cloud County the lead back at 3-2.
“One of my sophomores stepped up and scored a fantastic goal to make it 3-2,” Ralos said.
Lavery completed a hat trick by scoring his third goal in the final minute of the match to secure the 4-2 win for the T-Birds.
“I feel like we turned the corner a little on the men’s side,” Ralos said.

Cloud County 0
Neosho County scored a goal in each half to hand the Cloud County women a 2-0 loss on Tuesday.
The Panthers broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the final second of the first half.
“We gave up a really soft goal in the first half,” Ralos said.
Neosho County 8-5-1 overall and 7-5 in Conference play, tacked on a goal in the second half, and shut out the T-Birds.
Cloud County drops to 7-8 overall and 5-4 in Conference play.
“It was a game where we had chances to score, and we didn’t,” Ralos said, “The pressure is on to get results these last four games,” Ralos said.
