Three to be inducted into CCCC Athletic Hall of Fame
Denis Grahem, Garla (Chaffee) Pierson and Gary Ritter will be inducted into the Cloud County Community College Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday.
The ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the college cafeteria, and is open to the public.
Grahem, who was originally from Meriden, was a three-time NJCAA All-America in track and field. He placed second in the shot put in both the national indoor and outdoor championships in 1978 and still owns the school record in the outdoor shot put of 53-7.
Pierson, Clay Center, was the first Cloud County track and field athlete to win an NJCAA national championship when she placed first in the 800 with a meet-record time of 2:8.20 in the 1981 indoor championships. She also anchored the 4x800 relay team that won a national title in 1982.
Ritter, Norcatur, was a member of the Cloud County basketball team in 1968-70. He is one of only three Cloud County players to score 1,000 points and pull down at least 600 rebounds. He helped the Thunderbirds to their first Prairie Junior College Conference championship in 1970.
