Two CHS wrestlers place second

CLEARWATER — Cameron Miller, 126 pounds, and Kyle Marks, 220 pounds, recorded second-place finishes for the Concordia High School Wrestling team in the Clearwater Invitational on Saturday.
Concordia had Zak Romo place fourth in the 285-pound class.
Gage Canfield finished fifth in the 132-pound class for the Panthers.
Concordia was 10th as a team with 65.5 points.
Andover captured the team title with 173 pounds. Mulvane finished second with 164 points and Buhler was third with 152.5 points.
"Wins were hard to find for some of our younger wrestlers; however they did a much better job of attacking and moving against some good competition," Concordia coach Kevin Brown said, "We lost some tough, hard-fought matches that we need to focus on turning into wins over the next couple of weeks. Overall, this weekend I felt we made huge strides, and I am very proud of the way we competed."
Miller received a bye in the opening round. He pinned Ryley Richardson, Caney Valley in 20 seconds and got past Grifin Bossingham, Andover, 2-1.
Reno Hughey, El Dorado, pulled out a 2-1 win over Miller in the championship match.
Miller was 3-1 in a round-robin bracket. He pinned Dalton Holt, Wellington, in the third period; pinned Kley Bolivar, Ottawa in 1:11; and pinned Evan McElravy, Mulvane, in 46 seconds; and was pinned by Jon Yates, Buhler.
Romo, after receiving a bye in the first round, was pinned by Jaden Helms, Chapman.
In the consolation bracket, Romo pinned Chandler Adamson, Ottawa; defeated Nick Evans, Hugoton, 3-1; and pinned Tyson Hodson, Wellington, before losing by fall to Braden Redenbaugh, Buhler, in the match for third and fourth.
Canfield, after receiving a bye, fell 9-2 to Zane Littell, Hugoton. He pinned Chandler Calderon, Chapman; and defeated Cody Hoy, Pratt, 4-1.
Blake Cusick, Mulvane, pulled out a 4-3 win over Canfield in the consolation semifinals.
Canfield then won by default over Conagher Welch, Independence, in the fifth-place match.
Jared Knapp, 160 pounds, picked up one win for Concordia.
Knapp lost a 15-4 major decision to Jake Dusenbury, Andover. He won by technical fall, 15-0, over Brayden Streeter, Ottawa, and then lost by fall to Matt Triboletti, El Dorado.
Cole Larsen, wrestling in the 113-pound class, lost 11-1 to Chance Maynard, Buhler, and was pinned by Arthur Jesse, Independence.
Tracer Workman, 138 pounds, lost by fall to Brandin Bell, Ottawa. He fell 5-4 to Chris Towry, Andover.
Blaze Payeur, 145 pounds, dropped a 6-0 decision to Andrew Pelkey, Wellington. He was beaten 5-1 by Marcus Gaddert, Buhler.
The Concordia junior varsity had six wrestlers place in the Abilene Junior Varsity Invitational on Friday.
Brenton Edwards, 113 pounds, and Logan Higbee, 160 pounds, each went 4-0 to place first.
James McCabe was first in the 145-pound class with a 3-0 record.
Izaiah Grogan finished first in the 182-pound class. He was 3-1.
Alex Ngo, 106 pounds, and Taylon Whitley, 106 pounds, were each 2-1 and placed second.
