Children enjoy another day out of school after 6.5 inches of snow falls

Another snow storm? Clogged streets? Businesses closed?
No problem! At least for kids anyway. USD 333 students, who had just gone back to school after a long holiday break and then a day off to honor Martin Luther King Jr, were gifted with yet another day out of classrooms when 6.5 inches of snow blanketed Concordia on Tuesday.
That much snow on Tuesday meant no school on Wednesday!
"My mom said we could go sledding, and I was really happy," said six-year old Alyssa Brown. Alyssa and her sister Vanessa, 10, were among the batches of kids who took advantage of the school Snow Day to go sledding at Hood Park.
"It was my day off anyway," said Alyssa's mom Crystal. "We cleaned the house, watched television and then we came sledding."
The most recent dumping of snow on Concordia has many adults shaking their heads and contemplating the fickle nature of Mother Nature. This snow storm on Tuesday brings the total amount of snowfall for the season so far to 27.4 inches. That is already 17 inches above the average.
In all of the 2017-18 winter season, Concordia received just 5.4 inches of snow.
Unified School District 333 has used three and a half of the total number of days built into the 2018-19 calendar for possible severe weather issues.
But school scheduling issues, and problems with workers trying to get to their jobs and city employees trying to move all the snow and sludge and ice are far removed from the minds of kids.
"I wish we had more snow!" said twelve-year old Caden Swisher.
"I like it because I get to laze around," added Vanessa Brown. "But I like school, too, so I'm ready to go back."
There are 61 official days of winter left for 2019. If the season to-date is any indicator, kids and parents: there are more Snow Days are ahead!
